KONI is confident that taekwondo will be increasingly tested in international championship titles

Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano Norman believes that the Indonesian taekwondo sport is increasingly proven to host international championships after successfully holding the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships in 2026.

"The presence of the Asian Taekwondo stage in Jakarta is proof that the PBTI (Indonesian Taekwondo Executive Board) has worked hard to promote the advancement of taekwondo achievements," said Marciano Norman in an official statement.

He conveyed this while monitoring the implementation of the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships 2026 at Tennis Indoor, Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan on the fifth or final day of the tournament.

The championship, held from August 1–5, featured 478 taekwondo athletes from 36 countries. As host, Indonesia fielded 31 athletes, consisting of 20 kyorugi athletes and 11 poomsae athletes from the PBTI national training center.

Marciano appreciated PBTI for successfully gaining the trust of the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU) to hold the championship.
