Meta prevents its smart glasses from being used to record secretly

 

  Meta has updated its software in an effort to close a loophole that allowed users to record while their smart glasses' indicator light was covered, using their smart glasses to secretly record others.

AR Meta Vice President Alex Himel said in a post on Threads that the smartglasses camera is designed not to start recording if the LED light is blocked, but some people try to get around this by starting recording and then covering the light.

"A fix for this issue is rolling out, and the camera will now stop operating if the light is covered while recording," he said.

After the software update, the camera on the Meta smart glasses product will automatically stop recording if the system detects the indicator light is closed while recording.

To address privacy and unauthorized recording concerns, Meta previously stated that the camera on its smart glasses would be disabled if the device detected that the recording indicator light had been tampered with.
