- For tomato plants, choose a pot or plastic grow bag that is at least 10 to 12 inches deep, so that the roots have enough space to spread.
- Mix cow dung manure or earthworm compost and a little cocopeat into regular soil. This keeps the soil fertile and light.
- You can buy good quality seeds from the market, or you can cut ripe tomatoes from your kitchen and bury them in the soil. Small plants will emerge in a few days.
Precautions required for care
- Provide the tomato plant with at least 5 to 6 hours of good sunlight every day, so keep the pot in the part of the balcony where it gets direct sunlight.
- Water the pot only when the top of the soil feels dry. Overwatering can cause the roots to rot and the leaves to turn yellow and drop.
When the tomato plant begins to grow, tie it to a wooden stick or stake to prevent it from bending over and breaking under the weight of the fruit.
