Remains of the largest humans who lived in the Ice Age have been found at the bottom of the Penghu Strait, which separates Taiwan from mainland China.

The Daily Mail reported this, citing a study conducted by scientists from the University of Tokyo.

The newspaper said: "Fossils including part of a femur and a tibia were discovered in the Pengu Gorge, and these remains have revived theories about the 8 of giant hu pmans."

Researchers believe these remains belong to the Denisovan lineage, which is thought to have included some of the largest humans of the Ice Age, with some members reaching about two meters in height.

However, scientists estimated that the femur fragment belonged to an individual who was about 180 centimeters tall, while the tibia fragment belonged to an individual who was about 190 centimeters tall. These findings suggest that the individuals whose remains were found were among the largest known ancient humans of that era.

It is worth noting that the well-preserved protein sequences helped scientists identify the remains. Biomarkers confirmed that the owners of these limbs diverged from the Neanderthal lineage approximately 550,000 years ago.

Researchers have not yet been able to extract DNA suitable for analysis, so the classification of these individuals remains uncertain. However, their large bones suggest they were most likely male.

According to the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the earliest Denisovans inhabited the caves of the Altai Mountains more than 300,000 years ago. Later, Neanderthals arrived in the region, and the two different species of ancient humans coexisted there for a time.

However, the discovery in Taiwan suggests that the geographical range in which the Denisovan lineage lived was much wider than previously thought. Ok
