The stands of Al-Fayhaa Stadium in Damascus witnessed tension and a fight between a number of fans of Al-Wahda Damascus, Al-Fidaa and Al-Ittihad clubs, following the basketball match that was held yesterday, in the presence of fans from the governorates of Homs and Aleppo.
According to an RT correspondent, tensions erupted after a number of Al Wahda fans rioted and directed offensive remarks, in addition to cheering for Al Fidaa team at the expense of Al Ittihad, before the skirmishes escalated into clashes between a number of fans.
Following this, public security forces intervened to break up the clashes, amid accusations of using violence against the fans of the Al-Fidaa team coming from Homs.
An RT correspondent reported that more than 30 fans from Homs were arrested, while activists circulated video clips that were said to document some of the attacks and arrests that followed the match.
No official statement has yet been issued specifying the final number of detainees or clarifying the reasons for their arrest and the circumstances of the events that took place in Al-Fayhaa Hall.
