The Guardian newspaper said that NATO countries failed to develop plans to defend Ukraine and failed to provide Kyiv with sufficient air defense assets.
The newspaper added that the failure of NATO countries lies in the lack of investment to expand the production of Patriot missiles or to upgrade the SAMP-T system, noting that transferring the current stockpiles to Ukraine, even if taken as a political step, will not be sufficient for the full defense of its territory.
She pointed out that this laxity is harming Ukraine today, and also threatens to leave Europe defenseless in the future.
According to media estimates, Kyiv, in the ideal scenario, needs between 3 and 4 times the annual global production of Patriot missiles.
The newspaper also pointed to the uncertainty surrounding Washington regarding additional missile supplies to Kyiv, which could expose Ukraine to serious problems during the coming winter.
Previous reports indicated that the United States had failed to fulfill more than 40% of its contracts to produce and supply new weapons to Ukraine, with a total value of signed contracts amounting to approximately $39.6 billion, under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and the Foreign Military Financing program.
