The official spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mohamed El-Shazly, confirmed that the local football federation has not yet submitted an official request to obtain the honor of hosting the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations.
Al-Shazly said in radio statements on Sunday that what happened during the meeting held between the Minister of Youth and Sports and Hani Abu Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, regarding this file, was limited to confirming Egypt’s readiness to host the continental “senior” tournament.
He added that the Egyptian Football Association had already received a pledge from the Ministry regarding hosting the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations, stressing that Egypt was ready in all aspects to organize the tournament.
Al-Shazly pointed to the success achieved by Egypt in organizing the Africa Cup of Nations under 23 years in 2019, explaining that there is an immediate response to hosting the tournament again, given the readiness of the stadiums to receive the matches.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027, while the door has been opened for countries wishing to host the next edition, which will be held in 2028.
Egypt has the most prominent record in the history of the African Cup of Nations, having hosted the tournament five times in 1959, 1974, 1986, 2006 and 2019. It is also the most decorated team in the tournament with seven titles, giving it great organizational and sporting experience in hosting the biggest continental event.
