US Vice President J.D. Vance said on Wednesday that negotiations on an agreement with Iran would be “complicated and thorny, and will take time,” noting that “the Iranians are very difficult people to deal with, and they have a divided system.”
“Our job is to deal with this situation and achieve the best outcome for the American people, as well as for the President of the United States,” Vance added in an interview with Fox News. “And I think that in the end, although the process will be complicated and will take some time, we will reach a situation where, as you can see, I think the price of oil was $79 today (Wednesday), oil prices will fall and remain low, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, and the United States will be in a stronger position.”
He continued: “But we are still in the midst of the process, and I think people are trying to get ahead of themselves and judge how things will go,” according to CNN.
US President Donald Trump said that talks with Tehran appeared to be “going very well,” reiterating his positive view of negotiations to end the war with Iran without going into details of the discussions.
“I’ve heard things are going well,” he said in an interview published Wednesday evening with Fox 5 Las Vegas journalist Tom Dorrian.
Trump is always trying to give a positive impression of the talks, despite the war with Iran entering its sixth month and the two sides failing so far to reach a permanent end to the conflict.
He stated that reaching an agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz was imminent.
Trump said in the interview: “I’m not looking to kill people and wipe everything out, and that’s what we were heading towards. They wanted to negotiate and we are doing that, and things seem to be going well.”
