Turkish Trade Minister Omar Polat said on Thursday that trade volume between Turkey and Syria increased by 45% during 2025, while it recorded growth of 16% during the first seven months of this year.
This came in statements made by Polat to journalists after his participation in the opening of a truck stop at the Cilvegözü border crossing in Hatay province, southern Turkey, in the presence of the head of the Syrian General Authority for Ports and Customs, Qutaiba Ahmed Badawi, and their visit to the border crossing.
Polat stressed that Turkish-Syrian relations are witnessing "rapid development," noting that the growing trade and economic relations between the two countries will be reflected in the well-being of their people.
He said that Syria represents an important passage for Turkey to reach the Gulf region and North Africa, while Türkiye represents an important transit point for Syria towards Europe, the West and the Caucasus.
The Turkish minister pointed out that there are 6 operational border crossings between the two countries, stressing the importance of transport, trade, transit, and energy corridors that connect Türkiye with Syria, the Middle East, and the Gulf region.
For his part, Qutaiba Ahmed Badawi expressed his happiness at the joint opening of the truck parking area, noting that trade between the two countries has increased recently, which necessitated expanding the work areas on both sides of the border.
Badawi stressed that Türkiye and Syria are "two sister countries in all fields," emphasizing the need to work to increase the number of trucks and strengthen efforts to develop relations between the two countries.
Following the statements, Polat, Badawi and officials from both sides conducted an inspection tour of the buffer zone at the crossing.
