Egyptian sports journalist Medhat Shalaby revealed Al-Ahly club's position regarding the future of its Moroccan coach, Hussein Ammouta, indicating that if a decision is made to replace him, the direction will be towards hiring an Egyptian coach.
Medhat Shalaby said in televised remarks that the current trend within Al-Ahly does not include dispensing with Ammouta's services, but the continuation of unconvincing results may open the door to changing the technical staff, given the difficulty for the fans to accept any new decline in the team's performanc
Shalaby explained: "The talk in Al-Ahly right now confirms that there is no thought of getting rid of Ammouta, but if he fails in the 10 matches, whether he falters or does not top the Egyptian league table, perhaps the matter will require a change, the fans will not tolerate it."
The sports journalist revealed that the trend, if a decision is made to change the technical director, will be towards hiring an Egyptian coach, while at the same time rejecting the idea of entering again into the circle of costly contracts with foreign coaches: “Amouta’s replacement then will be Egyptian, and I personally hope that we will not hear about a foreign coach again in the Egyptian league. Save your money and dollars. Hossam Hassan gave us a beautiful example that the Egyptian can, and Moataz Gamal is a wonderful example with Zamalek. I hope that Al-Ahly will do the same.”
Shalaby linked Ammouta's future to the upcoming match against Zamalek, stressing that the result of the summit could have a major impact on the evaluation of the technical staff.
He said: "If there is a setback in the upcoming summit match, the matter of considering the departure of Hussein Ammouta may be expedited. These matches have a terrible impact on the technical staff, and this is a normal situation."
The summit match between Al-Ahly and Zamalek will be held on Sunday, October 11, at Cairo International Stadium, as part of the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League, in the first match for both teams after the current international break.
It is worth noting that Al Ahly, under the leadership of Hussein Ammouta, achieved four victories and one draw in the first five league matches, and occupies third place with 13 points, behind runner-up Zamalek on goal difference, and two points behind leader Pyramids.
