The World Industrial Exhibition WMC 2026, held in Hefei, China, unveiled robotic equipment and devices that can inspect energy facilities instead of humans.

One of the robots has six legs equipped with suction cups. It can move along vertical walls and ceilings, as well as inspect pipelines and other hard-to-reach locations in power stations. Three of its legs remain fixed to the surface during movement, helping the machine maintain its balance.
Another six-legged robot, weighing 2.5 kg, was also showcased. It uses cameras, LEDs, and infrared sensors to detect faults in electrical equipment. It can identify unusual noises and leaks of gas and liquid. The data is transmitted via the 5G network to State Grid's Guangming Power AI system, which then suggests appropriate actions. Multiple robots can share tasks within a single facility.
During the demonstration, a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera detected a section of an electrical transformer with a temperature exceeding 98 degrees Celsius. This temperature could indicate a fault. According to the developers, the artificial intelligence system in Anhui province analyzed over 50 million images of power grids, achieving a fault detection accuracy exceeding 94% and reducing manual labor in inspections by 80%.
Also on display at the exhibition was a cargo drone capable of transporting up to 50 kg over a distance of up to 150 km.
