Meta has launched a new small device called "Muse Charm," which allows the user to talk to the artificial intelligence assistant "Muse" without the need for a phone or computer.

This move sparked mixed reactions, with some users comparing it to the famous "Tamaguchi" game (a Japanese handheld electronic game that appeared in the 1990s, the idea of which is based on raising a small virtual character).

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, unveiled the device at the conclusion of the Meta Connect event, explaining that it was designed to be small enough to fit in the palm of the hand be attached to a keychain.

The device allows access to "Muse" by pressing a sensor located in one of its corners, enabling the user to speak to the smart assistant without needing to unlock the phone or open an application.

Zuckerberg said: "The device can be attached to a keychain, and is always available to talk to."

Muse Charm is part of Meta's strategy to expand the use of its AI assistant beyond phones and computers. The company previously announced that Muse would be available through its AI glasses, allowing users to request assistance while exercising, cooking, driving, obtaining nutritional information, searching for lost products and items, and even booking appointments and checking flight prices.

According to Meta, Muse can be activated simply by saying its name and telling it the request, so that the system works in the background and returns to the user after completing the task.

Limited images and videos of the device show that it includes a small screen displaying the virtual character (avatar) chosen by the user for their smart assistant, along with a sensor that can be pressed to summon "Muse".

Zuckerberg noted that the company has so far manufactured a limited number of devices for testing, explaining that Meta has not yet finalized the materials used in manufacturing or the final arrangement of the internal components. He said the company plans to have the device ready for shipping in December, without revealing its price.

Muse Charm sparked widespread discussion on social media. Some users welcomed the idea, with one calling it "the smartest use of artificial intelligence yet," while others wondered if the device represented an innovation that could compete with products from major tech companies like Apple.

In contrast, some users likened the device to the "Tamaguchi" game, while others criticized the need for it given the existence of smartphones and smartwatches that provide similar services.
