The Executive Office of the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Federation announced on Monday that Iraq will host the 28th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup tournament, "Gulf Cup 28".
The tournament is scheduled to take place from December 9 to 22, 2028, marking the return of the Gulf Cup to Iraqi stadiums.
This will be the third time that Iraq has hosted the Gulf Cup, after the 1979 and 2023 editions, with Basra hosting the last edition held in Iraq in 2023, which the Iraqi national team won.
The city and stadiums that will host the matches of "Gulf Cup 28" have not yet been officially announced, as the Iraqi government, in coordination with the Iraqi Football Association, is scheduled to determine the details of hosting at a later stage.
The Executive Office also approved assigning the organization of the 2027 Gulf Olympic Teams Championship to Iraq, with the competitions to be held in Basra Governorate from March 21 to April 3, 2027.
