In a speech he delivered during the visit, Kurtulmus expressed his gratitude to those present for the warm welcome and hospitality, saying: "We were very surprised to see a mosque of this size in Lisbon. This situation truly represents a great opportunity for Muslims in Lisbon and Portugal."

Kurtulmus pointed out that Muslims in Western countries have become an integral component of the societies in which they live, expressing his happiness about that.
He continued: "We are very pleased to see your presence as a well-integrated Muslim community in Portugal. Muslims have become an integral part of European countries today. Increasing cooperation between Muslim communities in Europe should be our common mission."
He said that every “Allahu Akbar” chant raised by Muslims in Portugal, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and throughout the European continent represents not only an act of worship, but also expresses unity in thought and shared feelings.
Kurtulmus arrived in Lisbon on Sunday for an official visit, accompanied by a number of members of the Turkish parliament.
