Barcelona broke one of its rules for the sake of Egyptian professional Hamza Abdel Karim, according to Spanish press reports, after the issue of renewing his contract was announced.
Barcelona announced on Friday afternoon that Hamza Abdul Karim's contract has been renewed, making it valid until June 30, 2030.
Although it was not disclosed, various press reports confirmed that Hamza Abdel Karim’s new contract saw a significant increase in the value of the penalty clause to become 150 million euros instead of just 15.
Barcelona revealed in its official statement that Hamza Abdelkarim will sign his new contract at the office of club president Joan Laporta on Tuesday evening and will then speak to the media.
The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that it is not customary for players to speak to the media after renewing their contracts, but Barcelona decided to go against that.
She explained that Barcelona's decision came as a result of Hamza Abdel-Karim not being presented to the media when he first joined the club.
Hamza Abdelkarim joined Barcelona on loan from Al-Ahly last February before the permanent purchase clause was activated in June.
