Russian hematologist Radion Tarnovsky warned against certain daily habits and practices that increase the risk of blood clot formation.
In an interview with the Russian website Lenta, the doctor pointed out that lack of movement is one of the most significant factors that increase the risk of blood clot formation. He said: "Among the daily risk factors for venous thrombosis is prolonged inactivity. Some people may be forced to remain immobile for long hours daily when traveling, undergoing surgical treatments, or suffering injuries."
He added: "The list of causes of strokes also includes several habits or reasons, including smoking, weight gain, and lack of physical activity, in addition to several other conditions and factors such as age, previous strokes, cancer, pregnancy, and taking a number of hormonal drugs."
The doctor pointed out that dehydration and insufficient fluid intake are also among the most common causes of strokes, and there is no single "safe rule" for everyone regarding the amount of daily fluids. The body's need for water depends on body weight, air temperature, activity level, diet, illnesses, and medications taken.
To prevent strokes, Tarnovsky recommends increasing daily activity levels, reducing foods high in fat and carbohydrates, and avoiding smoking and alcoholic beverages that are harmful to heart and artery health.
