The Syrian News Channel broadcast the proceedings of the sentencing sessions from the Palace of Justice in Aleppo.
According to the channel, the court initially acquitted one of the defendants, then sentenced a second defendant to life imprisonment, and a third to death, before sentencing a fourth defendant to 20 years in prison.
The sentencing hearings were held under the chairmanship of Judge Zakaria Bakkar, President of the Military Criminal Court, and in the presence of the relevant judicial authorities.
Thursday’s verdicts included 4 defendants out of 7, with the court to pronounce verdicts against the other three defendants at a later time, according to the same source.
The public trial sessions in the case of the coastal events began at the Palace of Justice in Aleppo, on November 18, 2025.
The trials at that time included 14 defendants, among them 7 who faced charges of inciting sectarian strife, theft and assaulting security and army personnel, while 7 others faced charges of theft and murder.
In March 2025, the Syrian coastal regions, particularly the governorates of Latakia and Tartus, witnessed bloody violence that resulted in the killing and wounding of thousands of civilians and military personnel, and as a result, judicial trials and local and international investigations began.
On the other hand, on Thursday, the Syrian Internal Security Forces began raiding a site where an armed group affiliated with the Islamic State “ISIS” was holed up in the city of Sanamayn in Daraa Governorate in the south of the country, following a clash with them that resulted in the death of 3 security personnel and the injury of others.
The Internal Security Forces said in a statement that the armed group in Sanamayn “belongs to the ISIS terrorist organization.”
She added that they began raiding the site where the group was holed up, after tightening the siege on it and giving its members a deadline to surrender, without any response.
Earlier on Thursday, the Internal Security Forces announced that three of its members were killed and others were wounded after they were targeted by an armed group while carrying out a mission to arrest a wanted person in Al-Sanamayn.
She explained, according to what was reported by the Syrian news agency “SANA”, that the wanted man leads the group that carried out the attack, without specifying the number of wounded or the nature of their injuries.
She indicated that her forces continued to be deployed in the city and were pursuing members of the group and those involved in the attack.
Following the clash, the Internal Security Command in Daraa imposed a temporary curfew in Al-Sanamayn “until the security situation stabilizes.”
The new statement did not include information on the results of the raid or an additional casualty count.
Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2014, the Syrian authorities are seeking to impose security and restrict weapons to the state, by pursuing wanted individuals and carrying out security campaigns targeting armed groups in various parts of the country.
These efforts come amid challenges related to controlling the security situation and preventing attacks on civilians and security personnel.
