The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met yesterday, Monday, with members of his country’s national team who participated for the first time in their history in the 1990 FIFA World Cup finals.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed shook hands with and hugged the team members and had a friendly conversation with them, in addition to signing the national team's jersey.
The UAE president took a commemorative photo with the team members, then addressed them, saying: "Don't move," before taking the camera and taking a commemorative photo of the team himself, a gesture that caught everyone's attention.
The UAE national team's account on the "X" platform posted a video of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed receiving the players of the historic generation, commenting: "A historic moment that embodies the wise leadership's support for sports and athletes, and honoring those who achieved success and made the UAE present in the biggest international sporting events."
The UAE national team, nicknamed "The Whites", participated in the 1990 World Cup in Italy for the first time in its history, and finished last in Group D, which included West Germany, Colombia, and the former Yugoslavia.
