Karim Hassan Shehata made statements regarding referee Mohamed Maarouf in the Al-Ahly and Zed match, during which he spoke about an incident in which he said that the referee asked Wael Gomaa, the director of football at Al-Ahly, to substitute the player Ali Mahmoud in order to avoid him receiving a red card.

But the account was denied by Wael Gomaa, who explained that the conversation that took place between him and Mohamed Maarouf during the match was about Al-Ahly's demand for a penalty kick and not about substituting the player, as confirmed by the referees committee after listening to what was included in the video recordings, that the conversation that Shehata reported did not occur in the manner he mentioned.

The Supreme Council for Media Regulation has decided to ban Karim Hassan Shehata, presenter of the "Kora Kol Youm" program on Al-Hayat TV, from appearing on air for one month.

The decision was based on the episode broadcast on August 29th, following a report from the General Directorate of Monitoring and the proceedings of the Complaints Committee hearing attended by the legal representative… pic.twitter.com/C4hzeRrbpy

Karim Hassan Shehata's statements sparked widespread controversy in the sports community after he confirmed on his program that he had information about a conversation that took place between Mohamed Maarouf and the Al-Ahly administrative staff, and said that the referee informed Wael Gomaa that he would not be able to protect Ali Mahmoud from being sent off if he continued on the field after receiving a yellow card.

In contrast, investigations conducted by the referees committee revealed, according to press reports, that the recordings did not include what Shehata attributed to referee Mohamed Maarouf regarding the Al-Ahly team's demand to replace Ali Mahmoud.

The Supreme Council for Media Regulation initially took action by summoning the legal representative of Al-Hayat TV channel for a hearing after the General Administration for Monitoring detected violations of media codes in the episode in question.

After completing the procedures and hearing the channel's representative, the decision was issued to obligate all media outlets subject to Law No. 180 of 2018 to prevent Karim Hassan Shehata from appearing for a period of one month, starting from the date of broadcast of the episode in question.
