The Minister of Communication and Digital urged residents to monitor information on the GAK eruption from official sources

Minister of Communication and Digital  Meutya Hafid urged the public to monitor information regarding the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau or GAK in the waters of the Sunda Strait from trusted official information sources.

"The most important thing is to remain calm, but not to reduce your vigilance. The public needs to follow the directions of the relevant authorities and ensure the information they receive comes from reliable sources," he said, as quoted in a ministry press.

"In a situation like this, misinformation can cause panic. Therefore, filter information before sharing . Ensure the information we receive comes from official and reliable sources," he said.

Meutya appealed to residents not to spread unverified information regarding the volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.

"Ensure the accuracy of information from authorized parties regarding volcanic disasters to avoid misinformation or misleading information that could cause unrest," he said.

He advised residents to monitor information regarding the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau and the distribution of its volcanic ash from official and trusted information sources, including the information channels of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation , the National Disaster Management Agency , and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency.

Mount Anak Krakatau has shown increased volcanic activity  and is now at Level III or Alert status.
