Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, announced the addition of a new player to the Pharaohs’ squad traveling to South Sudan in preparation for facing the latter in the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Egypt is scheduled to meet South Sudan next Tuesday in the second round of qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt had drawn 0-0 in the first round against Angola at Cairo International Stadium, and will enter the next match aiming to win against their opponent and obtain the three points to strengthen their position in the qualifiers.
The Egyptian national team revealed yesterday that Mohamed Salah has been excluded from the squad heading to South Sudan in order to rest him and keep him away from playing on an artificial turf (tartan) pitch.
According to the statement published on the official page of the Egyptian Football Association, the technical staff decided to include Osama Faisal, the Al-Ahly Bank player, in the Pharaohs' camp, and he will train with the team this morning.
Ibrahim Hassan explained that the national team delegation will leave Cairo at noon on Sunday, heading to South Sudan on a journey that will take more than five hours.
South Sudan and Egypt will face off on Tuesday in the second round of Group B in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, while the Egyptian national team will conclude its program during the break with a friendly match against South Africa on October 4 in Cairo.
