This came in statements made by Jorgensen on the sidelines of a meeting of EU energy ministers held on September 28 and 29.
Jorgensen explained that rising prices are harming the citizens and industry of the Union, arguing that the solution lies in local renewable energy.
He stated that the high cost of energy without an increase in the quantities of imported gas or oil demonstrates the extent of the unsustainability of relying on energy sources from other parts of the world.
He continued: "We used to depend on Russia, and fortunately we are now getting rid of this dependence, but nevertheless, rising prices in the global market are still affecting the Union."
In 2025, the EU's energy imports amounted to approximately 723 million tons, with a value of 336.7 billion euros.
Jorgensen's remarks come amid volatility in global energy markets since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28, and the accompanying disruption to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important global energy and commodity supply routes.
