Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian national team, left the Pharaohs' camp before facing South Sudan in the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Egypt will face South Sudan next Tuesday afternoon in the second round of matches in Group B of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations finals.
Hossam Hassan said in his remarks during the press conference: "This is not the first time that Mohamed Salah will not play on an artificial turf pitch. He previously did not participate against Cape Verde and Mauritania. This is the situation. We do not want to create problems. We are not suffering from any problems."
He continued: "We have a relationship based on love, respect, and friendship, and the proof is that we honored African and Arab football in the World Cup. But it is clear that this happens everywhere in the world. When there is success, we find some people trying to spoil it, but we succeeded."
He added: "We are ready for anything and on any pitch. We are not worried about the pitch or the temperature. We also have high temperatures in Egypt. We respect the South Sudan team and we have watched their matches. They are a respectable team, and God willing, we will achieve a positive result against them."
He concluded: "I am happy with the players and all appreciation and respect to everyone, whether present or absent, like Salah, because of the pitch, in order to preserve it, just as we did in all the previous matches that were held on an artificial turf pitch."
As questions mounted about Salah's departure from the camp following the Angola match, the team manager's statements clarified that the decision had been prearranged and that the stated reason was solely related to the pitch conditions of the South Sudan match.
Therefore, the absence of the Pharaohs’ captain from the match comes within the framework of a technical and precautionary decision agreed upon, and not as a result of a crisis within the national team, according to official statements and the team manager.
The Egyptian national team began its qualifying campaign with a goalless draw against Angola, and is now preparing to continue its journey away from home against South Sudan in a match that will be missed by the Pharaohs' captain, Mohamed Salah, according to the agreement announced between him and the technical staff.
