New German national team coach Jurgen Klopp has refused to yield to the rising wave of criticism following his team's poor performances in his first two matches with "Die Mannschaft".
Klopp took over as coach of the German national team from Julian Nagelsmann, after the team's exit from the round of 32 in the 2016 World Cup. However, his start was marked by frustration, as the German national team drew 1-1 with their Dutch counterparts last week, before losing 1-0 to Greece yesterday, Sunday, in the European Nations League.
Klopp said after the Greece match: "If the optimism has now disappeared, I'm sorry about that. There's no reason for me to get depressed now and say we're that bad in the end, we're not really," adding: "But we're also not at the level we want to be at yet."
The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund coach pointed out that he already knew that German football is not at its best right now, and that Jurgen Klopp will not come in and solve all the problems simply with a magic touch of his hand, and said that whoever did not know that now knows it.
Klopp took responsibility for the poor start in the Nations League, saying: "If you want to blame someone or criticize someone during this stage, blame me. Criticize me and leave the players alone," adding: "Things never go fast enough. But in the end, there will come a moment in the near future when we are ready to be a much tougher competitor."
