Manchester United have begun selling pieces of the pitch at their historic Old Trafford stadium to fans, in a move that gives supporters the chance to keep a memento from one of the world's most famous football stadiums.
The pieces were put up for sale at £125 each, on the same day the club announced that its total debt still exceeded £1 billion, while the first batch of grass pieces offered to the public had already sold out.
The Old Trafford pitch was completely removed during the summer for the first time in 14 years, before the club kept part of it and cut it into small 7x7 centimeters squares, then placed each piece inside a glass cube to sell as a souvenir to fans.
Manchester United described these items as "priceless mementos" of the historic matches and moments that Old Trafford has witnessed over the decades.
This comes as the club prepares for a new stadium project, having spent £63.5 million to purchase the land allocated for the project, amid expectations that the total cost of the new stadium will exceed £2 billion.
Despite Manchester United achieving record revenues of £677.6 million during the 2025-2026 season, along with operating profits of £22.6 million, the club recorded a pre-tax loss of £43 million.
