Sony says buyers have no ownership of PlayStation digital games

 

 

 Sony has confirmed that consumers who purchase games digitally through the PlayStation Store do not actually own the games, but only obtain a license to play them.

Sony made this statement in response to a class action lawsuit filed in a California court, United States.

The lawsuit alleges that Sony failed to provide consumers with sufficient information that digital game purchases do not grant ownership rights to the game.

The lawsuit, filed on June 18, alleges that the use of terms like " purchase " and " buy " in the transaction process can lead consumers to believe they are actually purchasing and owning the game.

The plaintiffs also allege that Sony failed to clearly inform consumers at the time of purchase that the transaction only granted a license, not ownership. This information was only provided in a disclaimer or separate agreement.
