The future of Algerian player Riyad Mahrez and French player Karim Benzema remains shrouded in mystery after their departure from their respective Saudi clubs, Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli.
Al-Hilal club had announced during the current summer transfer window the departure of its striker Karim Benzema, after the two parties agreed to terminate the contractual relationship by mutual consent on August 30, 2026.
Riyad Mahrez also left Al Ahly after the end of last season, after the club announced the termination of the contractual relationship with the player in July 2026, thus bringing to a close his career with the team, which lasted for three seasons.
According to press reports, the duo Riyad Mahrez and Karim Benzema, after becoming available for signing on a free transfer in the transfer market, are on the radar of the Spanish football club Getafe, to sign one of them during the upcoming winter transfer window.
Getafe, the Spanish club, has moved towards "free transfers" in search of new signings to strengthen the team's ranks, given the struggles that have appeared on its roster during the first seven rounds of the Spanish League competition.
The Spanish newspaper AS reported that Getafe's management took advantage of the current international break to study a number of available options without contracts, with the aim of expanding the team's roster and compensating for the shortage resulting from injuries, suspensions and muscle fatigue that affected a number of players.
The list of free agents included prominent names, including England's Jadon Sancho, Riyad Mahrez, Karim Benzema, Spain's Dani Carvajal, Portugal's Raphael Guerreiro, and Mali's Abdoulaye Doucouré.
