The Damascus Antiquities Department has completed archaeological excavations at the recently discovered tomb near Bab Musalla roundabout, in a move to highlight the rich historical layers that the Syrian capital holds.
Excavations carried out by the excavation division of the department revealed a rock-carved burial site dating back to the Classical period, consisting of three wings containing 12 graves, inside which a collection of archaeological finds were discovered, including glass pieces and bronze coins.
As part of the scientific study of the tomb, the Damascus Department of Antiquities carried out a three-dimensional documentation process that showed the actual dimensions and precise details of the site. A digital model was also prepared using photogrammetry technology with Agisoft software, which allows for the documentation of the tomb and the preservation of its details within an accurate digital model.
The various stages and excavation work were documented according to the scientific methodology adopted in archaeological studies, while the department continues to prepare the necessary technical and scientific reports, in addition to the final scientific report that is expected to contribute to determining the precise historical period of the burial site.
The results of the study are scheduled to be published in specialized scientific journals affiliated with the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums, after the completion of the research and scientific analysis of the discovered artifacts.
