Kylian Mbappe has broken his silence to put an end to speculation about a rift with his French national teammate Ousmane Dembele, days after the controversy sparked by his comments about competing for the Ballon d'Or.
In a recent interview with France Football magazine about the upcoming Ballon d'Or ceremony, Kylian Mbappe took the opportunity to explain that he was always seen as "the chosen one," while his teammate and friend Ousmane Dembele was seen only as a "talented player" (in his opinion).
Dembele responded by explaining that he was always at the back of the class working hard, without mentioning Mbappe.
As speculation mounted about tension between the two friends, especially with their upcoming reunion at the French national team's training camp in Clairefontaine, Mbappe made his position clear.
The Real Madrid striker, in an interview with L'Equipe as an ambassador for the "ON" brand, said: "I have already spoken to him about this matter and there is no tension and I don't think there is any real problem. I am completely calm."
Mbappe believes the controversy has been amplified further due to its timing, given his involvement with the French national team camp and UEFA Nations League matches.
He continued, smiling: "But during the UEFA Nations League and French national team gatherings, people always seem to find something to talk about, and I think this topic was carefully chosen."
The 2026 Ballon d'Or awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 26 in London, and will mark the 70th edition in the history of the award.
