The Egyptian Football Association announced on Saturday that star player Mohamed Salah will be rested from the upcoming match against South Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Football Association wrote in its statement: “The technical staff of the Egyptian national football team, led by Hossam Hassan, decided to rest Mohamed Salah from the match against South Sudan scheduled for September 29, due to the “tartan” pitch of the match stadium.”
He added: "An agreement was reached between the national team's coaching staff and Mohamed Salah before the Angola match not to play the South Sudan match, and the coaching staff preferred this in order to protect the player."
Egypt and Angola played yesterday, Friday, in the first round of qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, and the match ended in a goalless draw. Mohamed Salah participated in the match from the beginning until he left in the second half.
Controversy escalated within the "Pharaohs" camp hours after the goalless draw against Angola, amid talk of tension within the locker room.
