A Palestinian was killed by Israeli army fire near the Beit Ur military checkpoint west of Ramallah, after Israel said he carried out a car-ramming attack that seriously injured an Israeli soldier, who was later identified as Neria Leiter, the son of the Israeli ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of Mahmoud Muhammad Mahmoud Suleiman, 29, after he was shot by Israeli forces near the village of Beit Ur al-Tahta, west of Ramallah. The Palestinian that Suleiman was inside his vehicle when Israeli soldiers opened fire on him.
In contrast, the Israeli army stated that a "ramming attack" occurred near the Maccabim checkpoint, and that its forces shot and killed the perpetrator at the scene. Israeli police reported that a vehicle drove toward one of their patrols and struck an officer, seriously injuring him. They later clarified that the injured officer was a soldier who was part of a joint police patrol.
Israeli the wounded soldier is Neria Dov Leiter, the son of the Israeli ambassador to the United States, and that he was transferred to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he is receiving treatment. Ambassador Yehiel Leiter confirmed that his son was the wounded soldier, writing on that Neria “needs a miracle.”
The ambassador said his son continued to serve in the reserves after his older brother, Moshe Yedidia Leiter, was killed during fighting in the Gaza Strip in November 2023. He added that he has served hundreds of days in the reserves on several fronts since October 7.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he and his wife Sara, along with Israelis, are praying for “a miracle to happen.”
The incident comes amid tightening of Israeli military measures around Ramallah, and the spread of military checkpoints that restrict the movement of Palestinians between cities and towns in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli army has previously killed Palestinians at its checkpoints scattered throughout the occupied West Bank, claiming that they were trying to carry out attacks, before it became clear in some cases that this account was incorrect, and that the shooting took place merely on suspicion.
