US refuses to help Saudi Arabia attack Houthis directly

The United States will not launch an "offensive strike" against the Shiite Ansar Allah movement in Yemen, also known as the Houthis, in support of Saudi Arabia.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stressed that the US will not engage in any direct attacks on Houthi positions in Yemen.

The US believes Saudi Arabia now has everything it needs to counter the Houthis, another US official said, citing the assistance as including expanded intelligence sharing and targeting data.

Meanwhile, Lebanese media outlet Al Mayadeen  that Saudi Arabia was trying to reach an agreement with the Houthi group through the help of intermediaries.

Before hostilities and mutual attacks between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia escalated again in mid-June, Yemen had demanded a series of conditions from Riyadh.

They called on Saudi Arabia to agree to a prisoner exchange, lift the blockade on airports in northern Yemen, and pay compensation for damage to infrastructure and civilian populations in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen throughout the 12-year conflict.
