Chinese telecommunications equipment company TP-Link recently unveiled its latest routers that support the new Wi-Fi 8 standard, confirming that the devices will be available next year, according to a report by the American tech website PC Magazine.

The unveiling of the new devices comes at a time when "Wi-Fi 7" devices, or even devices that take advantage of the additional technologies carried by the new standard, have not yet become widespread, to the point that Apple's latest phone, the "iPhone Duo," has begun to rely on "Wi-Fi 7" technology even though it has not yet been released.
But what is meant by the "Wi-Fi 8" standard? What new features will it offer compared to previous generations? And when will it become widespread like other communication standards?
What's new in "Wi-Fi 8"?
A report by the American technology website "Wired" stated that companies' approach to the "Wi-Fi 8" standard differed from previous communication network standards.
Instead of focusing on increasing the speed of internet transmission, companies are now focusing on directly increasing the stability and reliability of the network, thus keeping devices connected to the internet while on the move.
Users will need to purchase special routers that support the "Wi-Fi 8" standard to take advantage of it, but this does not mean that all their smart devices must support the standard in order for them to benefit from it.
However, to make the most of the new connectivity standard, users will need to upgrade their home devices to newer generations that take advantage of the "Wi-Fi 8" standard instead of older networks.
The standard is also expected to support a variety of features that will significantly improve the smart home experience, including:
Multiple access point coordination: This feature enhances the connection of different and varied devices to a single internet network, instead of them interfering with each other, thus improving network coverage and reducing power consumption.
Focusing on low latency priorities, this feature indicates the ability of Wi-Fi 8 devices to distribute latency according to the needs of each device and its use. For example, multiplayer games need less latency, and therefore the latency priority is allocated to gaming devices.
Extended long-range capability. This feature allows devices to remain connected to routers with the same reliability and accuracy over long distances, without the need to add new access points.
What is the speed difference between "Wi-Fi 7" and "Wi-Fi 8"?
Despite this, the new standard will offer a noticeable increase in speed that will be reflected in the user experience due to greater connection stability.
Asus had previously revealed its Wi-Fi 8 devices in early 2025, without specifying a release date because the standard was still under development.
