Portugal's new coach, Jorge Jesus, announced his first squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, and it included star player Cristiano Ronaldo, the team's captain.
The list includes 25 players in Jesus' first call-up since taking over the national team from Spaniard Roberto Martinez, who left his post after Portugal's exit from the round of 16 in the 2016 World Cup.
The list saw some changes compared to Portugal's last World Cup squad, with Jesus calling up goalkeeper Samuel Soares, defender Nuno Tavares, midfielder Joao Palhinha and striker Fabio Silva.
Jesus also excluded Al-Nassr's Samu Costa, who was on the World Cup roster, as well as Nelson Semedo, Matheus Nunes, and Gonçalo Guedes.
Portugal will begin their UEFA Nations League campaign against Wales on September 24 in Lisbon, before visiting Norway on September 27, then facing Denmark away on October 1 and hosting Norway again on October 4 in Porto.
The Portuguese national team is participating in the new edition as the defending champion after winning the UEFA Nations League for the second time in its history in 2025, following a penalty shootout victory over Spain in the final.
