Italian football club Inter Milan announced on Saturday the death of their former star Sandro Mazzola at the age of 83.
Mazzola spent his 17-year professional football career with Inter, becoming one of the most influential players in the club's history.
There are those who enter history. And then there are those who become the very history of Inter itself. From a young Nerazzurri boy to an eternal symbol, Sandro Mazzola has spanned generations, winning, thrilling, and passing down the love for these colors.
Inter Milan mourned him, saying: "Sandor Mazzola was one of the greatest footballers in history. He only wore one shirt throughout his life."
The attacking midfielder scored 158 goals in 565 official appearances for Inter Milan, winning the Italian league four times and the European Cup/Champions League twice.
Mazzola scored two goals in the match in which Inter Milan beat Real Madrid 3-1 in the 1964 European Cup final to win the title for the first time.
The Italian team defended their title the following year.
Mazzola also achieved success with the Italian national team, winning the European Championship in 1968 and finishing second in the 1970 World Cup.
