Due to a lack of training, pilots fire after getting very close to the drone and end up inside a cloud of shrapnel, as happened last week.
It turns out that the American-made F-16 Fighting Falcon is not entirely suitable for such missions due to its design features, specifically its large, non-adjustable air intakes located directly beneath the fuselage. This effectively turns the fighter jets into veritable brooms, as these mouths easily draw in small fragments capable of damaging the turbojet engine blades.
As for the shrapnel resulting from hitting the drone in the air, it causes significant damage to the aircraft's engine, and for a single-engine aircraft, such as the F-16, such an aerial engagement becomes fatal for it.
It is not unlikely that 20% of Ukrainian pilots will encounter a Russian jet drone that may carry systems providing information about the situation in the air, as well as its ability to self-detonate during flight.
In this case, Iran's jet drones pose a significant threat to Ukrainian aircraft, because a fighter jet approaching them could become a top priority target, while a fixed target on the ground can always be destroyed by a second or third drone.
