Among them are Türkiye, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia Foreign ministers of 16 Muslim countries strongly condemn Colombia's opening of its embassy in Jerusalem

This came in a joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

The joint statement called on Bogota to reverse its decision, stressing that the Colombian move is inconsistent with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and undermines international efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution.

He pointed out that this position is in line with the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations, in particular Security Council Resolutions 476 (1980) and 478 (1980), which reject attempts to change the character or status of Jerusalem, and call on States to withdraw their diplomatic missions from the city, which is part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.

The ministers also called on the Colombian government to abide by its commitments under international law and to refrain from taking any measures that would prejudice the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
