The update is iOS 26.7.1 and is available for iPhone 11 and newer models running older versions of iOS.
The vulnerability affects the "CoreGraphics" component, which is responsible for processing and displaying images and graphics on iPhones and iPads.
Apple reported that the vulnerability may have been exploited in a "highly sophisticated attack targeting specific individuals," without disclosing further details about the nature of the attack, a targeting pattern that could indicate the potential use of spyware to monitor devices and collect information from them.
The update can be installed by opening "Settings", then selecting "General" and "Software Update", and pressing "Download and Install" or "Update Now". Users are advised to back up their data, connect their phone to a charger, and connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network beforehand.
Apple also released iPadOS 26.7.1 for a number of iPad models, including the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the third-generation iPad Air and later, the eighth-generation iPad and later, and the fifth-generation iPad mini and later.
In a separate update, the company released iOS 27.0.1 for iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to address a number of software issues that appeared after the release of these devices. The update addresses an issue that caused the phone to restart automatically after the Face ID system failed to verify the user's identity, as well as a camera bug that could cause unnatural colors to appear when using 2x zoom in certain lighting conditions. It also includes a fix for an issue that could cause the touchscreen to stop responding when opening the Notification Center and Control Center at the same time.
