Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Progress on rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Sumatra disaster has reached 98 percent

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Sugiono stated that the progress of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction has reached 96 to 98 percent after the recovery process has been underway for 11 months.

Sugiono, who is also the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force  for Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, said that this achievement is the result of the government's efforts over 11 months in handling the impact of the disaster in the three provinces, including through the issuance of various regulations and budget support to accelerate recovery.

He appreciated the hard work of the government and all parties involved in post-disaster management, especially in ensuring that services to the community in the affected areas continued.

According to him, the restoration of several public facilities has shown progress. In the health sector, almost all health facilities have returned to operation, with six sub-health centers in North Sumatra still pending restoration.

Meanwhile, the reconstruction of damaged schools and the provision of temporary and permanent housing for affected communities are still ongoing.

Sugiono acknowledged that there were still a number of locations that needed to be expedited, but he assessed that the rehabilitation and reconstruction process was generally still proceeding according to plan.

In addition to accelerating recovery, he emphasized the importance of strengthening disaster mitigation in development planning, considering that Indonesia is a country that is vulnerable to diasters.
