According to Sport.cz, the Czech University Sports Association initially had no objection to the two teams participating in the tournament, before receiving a recommendation last week from the hockey federation not to travel to China.
It is not just a matter of recommending a boycott, as the federation may prevent clubs from allowing their players to join the national teams participating in the tournament.
The 2027 Winter Universiade will be held in the Chinese cities of Changchun and Jilin, from January 15 to 25, 2027.
The Czech position comes at a time when the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions is witnessing mixed developments, after it was recently announced that Russian volleyball teams would be allowed to participate in European championships under the Russian flag and with the national anthem played.
