Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said that Egypt will defend its rights to the waters of the Nile River by all means permissible under international law.
In a speech marking the 53rd anniversary of Egypt's 1973 October War against Israel, al-Sisi described the Nile as "the lifeblood of Egypt and the foundation of its existence for thousands of years."

He stressed that Egypt's water share is "an established and non-negotiable historical legal right, and cannot be compromised or violated."
Al-Sisi said Egypt will not tolerate any action that threatens its water security.
The statement reiterated the dispute between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), which was inaugurated in September 2025.
Ethiopia says the dam is intended to generate electricity and support development.
Egypt and Sudan have expressed concerns about its impact on downstream water flows and called for a binding agreement on the filling and operation of the dam.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Egyptian president reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in accordance with legitimate international resolutions, remains the only viable path to achieving a just and lasting peace and sustainable stability throughout the Middle East.
