American boxer Sebastian Fundura successfully defended his WBC super-middleweight title, defeating Albanian Ermal Hadrebay by technical knockout, one second before the end of the 12th and final round, according to the newspaper "Sport Express".
The fight took place in Las Vegas, where referee Thomas Taylor issued two warnings to Hadrybay for holding onto his opponent.
As the fight progressed, Fundura's targeting of his opponent's body affected his ability to continue fighting, and the Albanian boxer fell to the ground as the final bell rang. The referee decided that he was unable to continue and declared Fundura the winner by technical knockout.
Hadribay thus suffered his first defeat in his professional career, after entering the fight with an undefeated record of 23 wins, while Fundura raised his tally to 25 wins in professional boxing.
Fondura commented on his victory, saying: "It was an exciting fight, and I had to fight at close range and prove my ability to do so again in front of everyone. I am happy that I was able to knock him out in the last few seconds."
The American boxer pointed out that this victory represents his fourth defense of his world title, confirming his ambition to win all the major belts to become the undisputed world champion in his category.
Fondura was crowned World Boxing Council champion on March 30, 2024, after defeating Australian boxer Tim Tzu, son of boxing legend Constantine Tzu, the former undisputed world champion.
