Indonesia and Malaysia discuss strengthening child protection in the digital space

The Indonesian and Malaysian governments discussed regulatory approaches and the implementation of child protection mechanisms in the digital space to ensure the public can use digital technology more safely.

Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, at Bali Tech Week (BTW) 2026, said that the expansion of digital connectivity must be accompanied by the government's responsibility to ensure the public, especially children, are protected when using the internet.

In this regard, the government no longer only faces the challenge of expanding digital access, but also ensuring that such access is safe, responsible, and appropriate to the needs of each generation.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital, he said, is currently implementing three main pillars: Connected, Grown, and Secured, as the primary foundation for its transformation program. These three pillars serve as the foundation for ensuring that connectivity advancements generate economic growth while simultaneously providing protection for the public in the digital space.
