Judo player reveals how tears helped her win world bronze medal

Russian Madina Taymazova revealed how tears helped her win the bronze medal at the World Judo Championships in Azerbaijan after losing in the quarter-finals.

Taymazova said she cried after the defeat, which helped her feel relieved and overcome the frustration, stressing that the bronze medal represents a success for her.

She added: "I don't usually downplay the value of medals or exaggerate my sadness when I don't achieve a better result. I am always happy with any medal, because it is the fruit of effort and work."

The Russian player explained that she faced difficulties in all the tournament matches, noting that she was not at her best, and that every match required her to make a great effort and fight until the end.

Taymazova had won third place in the World Championships in Azerbaijan in the under 70 kg weight category, after having previously won the bronze medal at the 2021 Olympic Games.
