He said: "I cannot give an exact number, but since 2015, more than 15 islands have been discovered in the Arctic region. Researchers have been monitoring the emergence of these islands for years, as satellite images allow them to track this process, and it can sometimes take several years to definitively confirm the emergence of a new geographical feature."

According to him, a definitive conclusion regarding the emergence of a headland, island, or peninsula can only be reached through on-site observation, as satellite imagery, despite its accuracy, does not always provide a conclusive picture. Most of the islands that have appeared in recent years are located in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, and scientists anticipate the emergence of further new geographical features there in the coming years.

The scientist pointed out that the emergence of these new landmarks is mainly due to climate change, while the development of remote sensing technologies has contributed to improving the ability to monitor changes occurring on the coastline.

He explained: "Global warming is causing ice fronts, which are rapidly moving ice masses, to retreat. Previously, researchers had to travel to these areas to observe such discoveries, but now they can do so using satellite images."
