The incident began when Vinicius tried to pass the ball with his heel in the middle of the field in a showy style, but he completely lost control of it, allowing Roma players to seize the mistake and launch a quick counter-attack that resulted in the home team scoring their second goal through Dutchman Donyell Malen in the 51st minute.
The footage showed Mourinho's angry and sarcastic reaction, as he mimicked Vinicius's gesture and waved his hand, highlighting his extreme displeasure with the Brazilian player's recklessness and irresponsible handling of the ball in that sensitive situation.
Five minutes after this mistake, Real Madrid conceded a third goal, making their task much more difficult. This prompted Mourinho to make a decisive intervention to save the game by making two smart substitutions at once, bringing on stars Indrek and Arda Guler in place of Vinicius and Denzel Dumfries, in a technical decision that resulted in a radical shift in the course of the game.
The Portuguese coach’s reading succeeded in creating a historic comeback and turning the tables on Roma with three consecutive goals in just seven minutes, as substitute Carlos Espi reduced the deficit in the 83rd minute, before Indric leveled the score in the 85th minute, and the decisive moment came through German defender Antonio Rudiger, who scored the precious winning goal (4-3) in the 90th minute.
