Deputy Governor of East Nusa Tenggara Johni Asadoma said the inauguration of the XXVII/Sobe Sonbai Military Command is an important step in strengthening defense and encouraging development in the border areas between Indonesia and Timor Leste and Indonesia and Australia.
"The presence of the XXVII/Sobe Sonbai Military Command is a concrete manifestation of the central government's commitment to strengthening the nation's sovereignty on the front lines," he said when contacted.
This was conveyed by Johni after attending the Parade and Inauguration Ceremony for the New Unit in the framework of the 81st Anniversary of the TNI at the Prima Field.
According to him, NTT's position, which borders directly with Timor-Leste and Australia, makes strengthening the defense structure in the region strategically important.
He said the presence of the XXVII/Sobe Sonbai Military Command is not only related to increasing defense preparedness, but also opens up space for strengthening synergy between the TNI and local governments in supporting development and the welfare of border communities.
"Border communities are the nation's frontline. Therefore, regional security must go hand in hand with infrastructure development, public services, and economic recovery in border areas," he said.
Johni emphasized that the inauguration of the XXVII/Sobe Sonbai Military Command was part of strengthening the defense and security structure, particularly in guarding land and sea border areas while supporting the development of border areas.
The 81st Indonesian National Armed Forces Anniversary ceremony, which carried the theme "TNI Strong Together with the People, Indonesia Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous," was led directly by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the ceremony inspector.
On that occasion, the President inaugurated 204 new TNI units and symbolically inaugurated a number of Military Regional Commanders officials.
