This drug is based on a natural bacteriophage—a virus that kills the tuberculosis bacterium. Trials have shown its effectiveness against 50 different strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Koch's bacillus), half of which are antibiotic-resistant. The treatment period is only two weeks. Researchers have collected comprehensive pharmacokinetic data and confirmed the absence of any toxic effects. Preparations are currently underway for the first phase of clinical trials in humans.

Vadim Avdeev, a researcher at the National Medical Research Center, says: "This is a completely effective drug for treating tuberculosis, with a mechanism of action different from antibiotics. In preclinical trials, it has shown high efficacy without the need to use it with traditional drugs. The animals inhaled the drug (D29), and we compared the results with a standard combination of isoniazid and rifampicin, and it showed superior results. The standard duration of antibiotic treatment ranges from six to twelve months. We plan to use the drug for only two weeks."

In the first phase of clinical trials, doctors will test the drug's safety on healthy volunteers. The second phase will focus on its effectiveness, which will be evaluated in patients. The drug will be tested both alone and in combination with other medications.
