Sixteen days passed without realizing it since the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games fire was lit on September 19, until it was finally extinguished.
Nagoya has witnessed so many stories, from victories celebrated with tears of joy, defeats accepted with disappointment, to the sweat of athletes fighting for success on the Asian stage.
the journey began two days before the official opening of Asia's largest sporting event.
The journey from Indonesia to Nagoya takes approximately 12 hours, including a two-hour transit at Narita Airport, Tokyo.
Upon arrival in Nagoya, the first impression was of relative quiet. This calm persisted as we continued our taxi journey to our accommodation. The city showed no signs of the thousands of athletes, officials, journalists, and volunteers from various countries who would be filling its every corner in just a few days.
The first day of their assignment began with a visit to the Main Media Center photojournalists picked up their bibs before proceeding to Kinjo Pier to see the floating athletes' village aboard the Costa Serena cruise ship.
The ship arrived in Nagoya on September 15 and was used as accommodation until October 6. With a length of 290.2 meters, a gross tonnage of 114,000 tons, and 1,500 cabins, Costa Serena is prepared to accommodate approximately 4,000 athletes and officials at any one time.
After that, the days on assignment are filled with moving from one station to another and from one arena to the next. The time spent traveling often feels as important as the matches themselves.
