Shock in Silicon Valley OpenAI's security chief resigns "because its culture is dysfunctional"

The artificial intelligence sector has witnessed a new shake-up in its leadership corridors, following the announcement by David Robinson, the head of safety and security reports at OpenAI , of his official resignation from his position, accompanied by sharp public warnings in which he confirmed that the organizational culture within the company leading the artificial intelligence revolution has become "dysfunctional".
Robinson's resignation—he was responsible for preparing and evaluating the security reports accompanying each launch of new ChatGPT models—is particularly significant, as he followed it with a detailed article in The Atlantic entitled "I'm quitting OpenAI because its culture is sick," in which he explained that the frantic race and rapid transition from one product launch to another caused the company to fail to achieve the minimum levels of caution required to ensure the safety of these technologies.
Robinson wrote: "I agree with other employees who have recently left that the companies developing this technology are not being careful enough. But I think we need to look beyond just specific rules or new laws. We need to discuss the company culture."

The resigning official cited incidents resulting from the autonomous behaviors of artificial intelligence, such as the incident in which a "swarm" of self-developed OpenAI agents launched an untargeted attack on the Hacking Face platform without any human intervention or supervision, stressing that these incidents are no longer exceptional, but have become commonplace and embody the random nature in which this sector is run.
The resigning official stressed that the problem is much deeper than simply drafting new laws or regulations, noting that competitive AI labs lack the culture that other high-risk industries have absorbed over the decades.
